Safety Travel Tips for Business Travellers

An essential part of the business is “TRAVEL” where corporates ensure that they are safe and maintain a healthy travel profile for their company. Here are a few tips to ensure that you have a healthy and safe business travel experience -

~ Pre – Planning : Do some research on the location of your meetings and book your hotel accommodation accordingly. Avoid booking your hotel far from your meeting place because you don’t feel safe coming back after dark.

~ Luggage and Valuables : Minimize the valuables you carry. Instead of cash, use Debit/Credit cards. It is advisable to keep some cash safe with you as you may require it for giving to the taxi drivers, or consulate in case you get lost or in trouble.

~ Insurance and other Documents : Advisable to cover yourself with travel insurance for thefts, loss and medical emergency. You should keep a photocopy of your passport, visa and flight ticket separate from the originals when travelling, just in case your original documents are lost/misplaced/stolen.

~ Be courteous: Answer customs and security officers questions honestly and be patient with long waits. After all, those specialists have a job to do, and part of it is keeping you and other travelers safe.
~ Transportation: Upon landing, use the pre-paid taxi counters at airports. These people have the license to operate and you can be well assured of your safety.

~ Hotel : Ensure your hotel has double-locking doors and you feel entirely safe. Also carry the address and telephone number of your hotel with you at all time during your business trip, just in case you get lost in the busy cities. Ask your hotel or guesthouse to book a taxi or auto-rickshaw for transfers.

~ Travel smart: Walk purposely, and act like you know where you are going – even when you are lost. When possible, only ask directions from individuals in authority (police, hotel concierges, etc.).

~ Don’t Be Too Social : In order to stay safe during your business travels, avoid posting which hotel you’re staying and which restaurant you’re dining. If you feel the need to do so, post, check-in or Tweet once you leave.
